A.VOID is a collective online performance created by me and the artist Silvia Cîrcu. It was created for a radio show at Radio Galoche (at the Doc!), as a platform for an online collective sound experience in real-time.
In the context of the social isolation of 2020 and the consequent impossibility of meeting to experience live performance, we propose a platform accessible online as a performance space. Participants connect to the website and, represented by an abstract avatar, are immersed in a sequence of different virtual environments, inducing different movements, sounds, and generative interactions.
By moving the physical scene to the virtual environment, we try to experiment with the idea of performing with entities that dwell in this virtual context. Performance no longer belongs to physical rules and systems. The performative human presence is transported to the virtual world and performs as it can, with the means that the computer can perceive. It is a performed communication moved and re-contextualized in an inverted hierarchy where the virtual autonomous entities are the inhabitants, and we are the explorers.
